Name that bug...

I"ve noticed this odd looking fellow on a couple of my fig trees.  I have about 25 tree's all very close together.  I was seeing several of these guys ONLY on the White Texas Everbearing.  Probably 6 or 8 of them.  There still on that one, but not on the neighboring trees.  But now I see one on a Peter's honey tree that is at least 5 trees away from the first one.  The in between one's don't have them (that I see).

They are about 3/8" long (hard to tell that from the picture).  They move very fast around the stalk of the limb.  Seldom see them move up or down.  But if you put your finger near them, they'll flick around to the opposite side at near the speed of light.

The tree itself looks fine.  They don't seem to be doing any harm that I can tell.

Thanks,
James

mealy bug - NOT

Psyllid of some sort.  They are all bad....kill them.  A relative of them the Asian Psyllid is the bad guy that spreads citrus greening.

Is that the same as a leafhopper?

Looks like a leafhopper to me. I had some on my grape leaves last year.

No I don't believe they are the same family.

They don't seems to stick there tail up like most psyllid images I see on the net.   It also looks close to some leafhopper images i've seen  (thanks for the names, i'd never heard of them before).

Would Neem oil help?  Or I could whip up some china berry tea and spray on it.  That's supposed to be similar to neem oil from what i've read.

Looks like a leafhopper. I kill a lot of them with my fingers.  Put your thumb on the side of him and smash him with your index finger when he moves around the branch.  They like to get on my eggplant .

does look like leafhopper. they are rather good at moving around when i approach them. they don't jump off.. but they scoot to the side so i can't see them. mostly i leave them alone. i'm getting really tired of some spiders that's keep putting on the web between the trees. i don't mind spiders are all, they are helpful, but the web getting in my way when i'm checking for figs is getting really annoying.

Leafhopper.  They can spread disease.  Grumble grumble... including viruses... grumble grumble.  I think Neem may work, except you have to actually get the stuff on the critter.  I think the residual action of Neem may not kill them.  I think.  It may be worth the experiment.
