Narragansett 2013

This is Narragansett 5334 found Point Loma, San Diego, CA in 2010. While surveying my figs, I was pleasantly surprised to find this ripe yellow-green breba. It had a good size (8/10), was moderately sweet (6/10), very juicy (9/10), little to no crunch (1/10), and no flavor to speak of (4/10). I will let the sugars concentrate for a few more days on any more that ripen. Hopefully, that will intensify not only the sweetness but also the flavor.

Interesting description.  Jon reports this as one of his most overlooked figs worthy of having.

I agree with Jon's report. I sampled the fig in Point Loma in 2010. The climate in Point Loma is ideal for Narragansett 5334. I would describe it as 'not well known'.

The high heat, high humidity, regular rain, and daily temperature swings of 20+ degrees challenge it here in 8B. If I get one, I suspect the main crop will be much better.

What's the basic eating profile?  Honey, fruit, or what class of figs is it close to?

NM, did the intelligent thing and searched the forum...Adriatic type.

Not 100% certain that it is Adriatic. In due time, we will know...hopefully.

Awesome job JD! Awesome indeed.

I finished a second breba this afternoon. It was better than the first because I let it ripen a little longer. Here is an updated subjective quantification: no change in size, juiciness, and flavor. However, it was sweeter (7/10) and it had more seeds thus a slight crunch (4/10) that I really like.
