NC fig grower joining the fun

Found F4F a great resource on figs the other day and have enjoyed all the shared information going around.  I live outside Raleigh NC and have been growing figs for 15 years sharing with anybody who will listen how great they are.  Currently I have a 15 year old Brown Turkey that produces well with three smaller tree rooting's from the main tree.  I have a Mission fig that is 10 years old with one small tree rooting growing that also produces each year.  I discovered the Kadota a couple of years ago and planted two trees last year.  My fourth variety I believe is the Desert King based on the pictures I saw on this forum as well as somebody describing how slow theirs has grown.  The Farmers Market that I bought it from 10 years ago told me it was from Texas and it has grown very slow except for a faster growth the last two years and it finally started producing this year making the wait well worth it.

I also have fig trees planted at my church and our local food cupboard garden that we will be sharing locally when they start producing.

I propagate new trees from the ones I have planted and trade them at my garden club or with anybody local that may want to trade or sell fig trees.  Let me know if there is anybody in the Raleigh area that has fig trees to trade or sell.

Welcome

Read your propagation thread, good information.  Last spring when I pruned my trees I tossed the cuttings in a pile and with our wet spring I had a mound of new growth and roots forming.

Welcome!  NC is a great area to grow figs.

Welcome fignc.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome:)

Welcome to the forum fignc, sounds like you have a good start, trees 15 yrs old, busy spreading fig facts, sharing with the community and just promoting figs. Good growing.

Welcome

Welcome. I am interested to know how long it took your Mission tree to establish. Is it single, multitrunked, or bush form?

fignc,
Welcome to THE forum, where it all happens :)

What is your name? LOL

Welcome!

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome aboard!

Welcome.

Hi fignc,
Welcome to the forum.
How did you acquire your first tree ? Family tree ? with the new house ? from a nursery (it is so cute, let me buy just ONE !)? Or your stubborn father told you it was impossible to raise
figtrees in your area, and an Italian gardener beat you at proving figtrees could thrive in your zone :) ? and since then you have figtrees because figs are so delicious .

There is a post with a title like  "Are you a fignut?" ; On top right, there is a search function . That post is really fun to read.

Welcome to the forum!

So funny, JD, because it is so spot on.

Welcome to our piedmont cyclists.

I live in North Carolina, a heads up there will be a fig gathering for fig collectors next year, a great way to meet people, to learn, to trade, buy and maybe even win fig trees. Sometimes people even give free fig cuttings away! It will be in the Charlotte area.

Will the NC fig gathering be in the fall?

My black mission was established in three year growing multi trunk and has little or no winter damage.

Thanks for the information about your Mission.
