need better plan for moving larger trees outside.

might be due to too much stress from root pruning. or might be sun is too strong. last year, i didn' have this problem.

this year, my older trees are having some issue with their leaves. all are getting burnt crisp from the sun. i'm waiitng for them to drop and new leaves to come out. nah.. i'm not moving them out form the sun.

the newer trees are not having the same issue, altho, i untangled the root and man handled them to dead. some actually had their roots cut off since they were too long.

of couse, new 1 gals are all under the front porch getting filtered sun from the rails and what not. they look happy.

looks like it's going to be a wonderful summer :)

Pete, that will always happen.  But, they will pop out new leaves immediately following.  My figs did not drop any leaves though.  Everything inside my garage has new leaves but the only ones with sunburn are the mulberries and persimmon trees.  I planted 5 persimmon trees and 2 mulberries (Pakistan and Illinois EVB).  Mulberries grow so freaking fast and the cuttings are hard to root.  You should see the pictures of my large container trees that I pulled out yesterday.  What a sight for sore eyes!  I'll post some pic later this week.

Pete

I have experienced the same "sun burn" issue here in MD on newly established plants. I have about six trees, mostly HC, that I started early on from cuttings. From rooted cuttings, to cups, to one gallon pots. These plants are well acclimated humidity wize, but the last few days when I had them in direct sun, their bright dark leaves have paled. So, for sure too much sun. i left two test plants in doppled sunlight, in our sunroom, no change. The direct sun just too intense on those placed outside. BTW, although I said these are new, the plants themselves are about a foot tall with a good 10-12 leaves. Just big babies!

Pete trying to understand your post.
Did you older trees leaf out in garage first then you put outdoors ?

You mentioned you root pruned did you trim canopy to match as well ?

Other than that sounds like the sun or a cold windy day zapped them the youngens can be different depending on variety.

Martin,

It was an emergency root pruning. The top was already pruned over the winter. But since it was in garage for awhile, new leaves grew out. So, they are getting burnt. New leaves are starting again.

Ah ok .
you fig punish-er.

Ps- dont give them any alcohol and they will be just fine.   ; )
