Need contact information for Figaholics Anonymous

When I close my eyes I see figs.  When I wake up in the morning the first thing I wonder is how my figs are doing.  I'm constantly putzing with my fig plants when I should be doing actual work.  It's time for an intervention.

Hmm. Last night I had a dream that my plants were all wilting, and when I pulled them up by the stem to check the rootball, every single one was ROOTLESS!
Just sticks, like those cuttings that fail in the rooting process.
Weeeeiiird...

I see a pot and wonder how to make a SIP out of it. I go to Lowes, Home Depot and nurseries and look in the dumpster for pots. I see a small container and think of how I can use it for an air layer. I follow the forum and eBay and look at figs.
I'm right there with you my brother

It does not get better with time, be warned.

Doug

I was going through the same thing when I first started rooting cuttings.  You'll pull through, my friend!  ;)

Are you sure?

But I just saved a bunch of money by switching to geico.

I am still obsessing. But I have decreed ( finger pointing in the air and hand over my heart) that after this last batch of cuttings that I ordered arrives, I will buy no more figs!!!!

I started with three last year now I have 15. I know to a lot of you guys 15 isn't many but I've cut myself off. Unless I can get a good deal. Or unless I get cuttings cheap. Or unless someone ships me a tree by "accident". Or unless I "find a tree" on the clearance rack at lowes.

read one of my first post : http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/how-do-i-take-control-6237357?pid=1277136562#post1277136562

still hard for to take control acquiring more and more cuttings like there no end.

i plan to take the 10-15 best varieites ( sorry brown turkey your not in ) and grow them in big pots.
If i had land like some fig growers here i would go the distance... but for now i enjoy with my small trees.

Hi I'm Figgie, oh I mean Charlie and Im a figaholic :)

It doesn't get any better. I just brought back 4 plants from visiting my parents on the west coast. 4 hours of constructing a box to make them fit the airline rules and my husband was not too happy with me. Maybe the fig obsession will fade a bit in the coming years, but not quite yet....from one addict to another, welcome.

Silly, you wouldn't ask your drinking buddies where the nearest AA meeting was, would you?

I'm thinking the only way to overcome this is to be obsessed about something even more addicting, but I'm too old for most of the things that come to mind.

Smaritza,
Your decree is nonbinding and was clearly made under duress, or at least at a time when you would not be considered to be of sound mind and body.  When (not IF, WHEN) you fall off the wagon and buy more figs, we will not think any worse of you.  In fact, we will be happy for you and also a little bit jealous.
Cheers,
Jim

Hi,
Plant peartrees, blackberries, tayberries, gooseberries, plums, peaches, currants . At least, you sometimes will not be figging !
That's the therapy some are trying ... for now it seems to work .

By the way, I just found a strain of gooseberries called "Golden drop". They are really big compared to the original ones. I'm giving that a try !
No no no, don't call the nurse ...

jdsfrance, I have more than 3 hectares of those kinds of things planted as well as grapes, elderberries, kiwis, pawpaws, walnuts, chestnuts, pecans, apricots, elderberries, rhubarb, cherries, blueberries, serviceberries...  for some reason I'm constantly getting distracted by the figs...

Some addictions can  not be cured: you just have to embrace them.

I just refinanced my house to buy one more cutting! It was worthed.

A vacation might help and if your problem is really serious do not water while you're away.

And much more satisfying, you have something to show for it after you have put all the money and time into the hobby.

Plus, did you ever try to eat a golf ball?
