Need food safe product for SWC

I'm building several self watering containers from food safe 5 and 7 gallon containers donated by a generous member.

The buckets previously contained, for example, pickles prior to being re-serviced.  Unfortunately, they aren't a clean fit inside one another and will have a lot of evaporation, etc.

Is there a product like a caulk or spray foam which I can use to stabilize the space between the top and bottom bucket and to also 'glue' the base PVC wick to the top bucket as well as seal the space between the water intake tube and the hole in the top bucket?  The design I inherited has a 2" or so PVC collar which sits on the bottom of the reservoir and extends to touch the hole in the top bucket - I need to lock it in place and zip ties may not do the trick.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Andrew

Andy I saw this earlier and filed it to the back of my mind.  I can't think of anything that would stand up to moisture, heat etc.  My only advice is to put up with the evaporation or only use buckets of the same type as a pair in a given SWC.  Sorry - lame post but it bugged me that no one replied to your question :)

Stuff in  a little poly rope for the gap. No idea about adhesives I am no SWC expert.

Your best bet on the adhesive is probably a fish tank sealant.  It's non-toxic so it doesn't harm the fish and should be available in most pet stores.

Figaro,

Thanks so much for the lead.  I'll check it out.  Apparently the HD stuff - so long as it is 100% (ie no mold inhibitor is OK - as long as it says food safe I'm good).

The poly rope idea is also a good one.

Regards,

Andrew
