Pruning shears should do the trick, or a fresh box cutter(hold the top of the piece being cut and be careful). Or you can just cinnamon them and snap them off after they dry later on.
Don't let them dry out all the way, they are used to being moist, just roll it back a little and allow the weight of the cup to lighten. But, water will evaporate out of the cups faster with more warmth, light and less humidity, so you may even have to water more often now. And, after they grow more leaves and roots they will also need water more often. You can use some of the dead ones for weight comparison by letting them dry out all the way to see just how light that mix will get, add some quarters to add the weight that would be there for a healthy fig.
I just moved the last of my indoor cuttings out into the shade, but started outside a month ago. I lost fewer outside than inside even with all that rain last week. I can't say why, they are just healthier out there.
*No sunlight should be allowed to hit the sides of those cups when you set them in their new spot outside* And if the morning sun wilts them at first you should block it for a little while. Again, good luck.
