Need help

My Afghanistanica won't keep it's leaves for anything. It just drop them one after another, but the plant keeps on growing. I water it about every 5-7 days, while growing in a mini greenhouse. It's growing in Promix HP with a mixtures of vermiculite. I just gave it Espoma plant tone and iron tone to see if it helps. I can't think of any other way to try to help it keep all the leaves.

Is there anything else I could do to help it?

A close up of that one leaf that we see mostly on edge might help.
That leaf looks like has something happening to it.
drying out?
dieing from lack or too much water?

Here is a picture of the leaf.

How do the roots look?

The roots look thin and stringy, they aren't thick at all. The plant is as thin as a pencil. I had it for 3 months now and nothing has changed.

Spider mites?

Got sun?

Jarrett,

First, Many thanks for your service.

Second, just a few quick thoughts....check your culture.

The growing medium looks too wet, and is probably loaded with acidic, peat-moss.  Not good.  Change to a quick draining mix, and shove a bamboo skewer/wooden dowel,  into the pot.  Pull the skewer out and check every few days for moisture.  If the bamboo stick looks wet and feels cold, there's enough water near the roots.  Water only when necessary.  If you are growing the plant outside, have night temps plunged low enough to damage and blast the leaves?

You say the plant has done nothing for a few months....usually an indication that culture is off.  Are the roots rotting?  Are you giving it enough strong light?  Enough heat?  If that plant is in 6a, the nights must be cooling off.  Cold temps and wet soils= root rot.

I hope the above might give you some clues.  Double-check everything.  The species name tells you something about the climate that this fig needs...hot, sunny, some moisture around the roots.

Good luck.

Frank

2 tablespoons of epsom salts will promote leafing, if you have enough heat and light, careful with the water.

Thank you for your service to our country.

Jarrett,
1. The leaf close up looks like the aftermath of spider mite feeding...
2. The plant also looks nutrient deficient. Have you been fertilizing to this point?
3. A feeding of dilute Liquid fertilizer may help (MG @ 1 teaspoon per gallon or a 9-3-6 liquid fertilizer).
4. The Espoma product actually takes a little time to start breaking down before they can be utilized by the plant, the ingredients that are water soluble are a very small percentage.
5. The Promix HP is a good potting mix, but adding vermiculite increases water retention, possibly drowning the roots.
Good Luck.

I dont water this plant that much since it's from Afghanistan. I water maybe once a week, I could cut back water more. the trunk is rotting back. I didnt know vermiculite holds water, I always thought it helps with draining. I will let it dry out and use some diluted MG. My apartment orientation doesn't get much sun so this plant is under growlight.

could the humidity in the mini green house be hurting a plant from Afghan much?

I really wish I had a back yard.

thank you for the suggestions. I will add some perlite to the mix for drainage. Maybe I could add some bottom heat to help the roots develop.
