need help with a fig

Hello, I am very excited to have this opportunity to see what I can do to help this fig but not sure what my options are.

I was at a nursery just looking around. I found the fig. As I was look them over I found one I liked. I noticed it had been broke. The nursey worked told me I could have it. So now have a fig I think I need to air layer to be able to save the top when I cut the break out to save the lower half. Please let me know.

"A picture is worth a thousand words". That would be a big help to see what you are dealing with. I've read that you could tape up broken branches for future reference.

I am sorry I do not have access to take a picture. The break is about 1.5 to 2 inches. The wood is very dry and brittle. The fig is 3 feet tall. Break is 5 inches above the graf, but the top of the fig is very green and healthy. I believe it has 50 or more leaves on 2 year old wood and this years. (Sorry I told you as much as I could)

Can't you just leave it alone. New buds/branches should grow at the broken branch. It's just a serious case of pinching. Again, its difficult to give you advice without seeing.

If its snapped and just hanging by fibers, an air layer may not be the best solution.  You could either:

1. Cut the top off at the break point and try to root the top.  Then you'll have to fig trees!
2. Wrap it, tape it or glue it with wood glue.  It might heal up, though freshness of the break point is key.
3.  Leave it alone and it will regrow.  :)

Thank you for your thoughts. I may just cut it to the break (pretty much to the ground) and see if I can start the rest of the plant (about 2.5 to 3 feet).
