need info for my gift

First off a big kudoes to the forum members and thier giving nature. as many of you know i do sell plants on ebay and donate  % to charities. Jon still waiting to see figs4fun show up on mission fish via ebay giving works, i think this would help those forum members who do sell be able to contribute more. From my trees and the giving nature of the forum we should have close to 1000 trees that can be sold for charity come next sprin and summer provided they all root. that deserves a big round of applause.

on a personal note while i do do this i am still a gardener and collector of figs as well as any edible fruits that i might be able to grow here. through my purcheses or trades i can say that now i will be adding elderberries, Goji berries, and honey berries to my collection. and hope in the comming year or 2 to be able to share those with the forum as well.

I was gifted 3 trees that i had lost during last winter or wanted to obtain these are.

Any and all info on these types of figs would be great and a very, very big help.

hi Dave. I don't mind admitting I'm the source of some of those varieties.
I have no cuttings left, so anybody that reaches out to me for any of these varieties will get a "Sorry, all out..." from me :)

I think you're doing an amazing thing with your charity work, and wish you lots of success in rooting and selling these varieties, as I know where the profits go.
We all should be contributing to society as much as you do.
Thank you for your service, in and after the military.

I can name some of my sources, but others will have to stay anonymous, unless they want to come forward.

Papa John - I acquired this variety this summer at Bass's Fig Gathering. Small, late purple fig. Similar taste to Takoma Violet to me.
Alma - anonymous. Has not ripened any fruit, but is a very aggressive grower, and very clean.
Jurupa - Harvey C. First year, no fruit yet.
Armenian - anonymous. No fruit yet, reportedly a yellow fig, with a large eye.
LW - Lyndhurst White - Anonymous. Lots of info available on this BASTARD that hasn't fruited yet, even though it's 2 years old :)
MLS - Marylane Seedless - Almost Eden. Small yellow fig, prolific. Capable of ripening Breba and main crop for me in a pot, Zone 6B.
Preto - Figo Preto - Encanto Farms. Aaaalmost ripened for me this year in a pot. This is a famous one, lots of info available.
Verdone - Almost Eden - Large green fruit, late, no apparent Breba. Ruby flesh, insanely sweet. This one doesn't droop even when it's ripe, the neck is thick.
YM - Yellow Magnolia - Almost Eden. Very good grower, clean, no fruit yet.
PH - Peter's Honey - Monrovia. My first tree, from a local nursery. Both crops ripen for me, I prefer the thinner-skinned Breba. Lots of seed crunch on both crops.
Attilio Green - Local unknown originating from Abruzzo, Italy. I've posted some pics of this one.
Excel - USDA. Fast grower, medium fig, I've only tasted one, and it was just alright.
Abebereira- Encanto Farms. Slow grower for me, unproductive so far.
White Triana - I believe this came originally from Joe Morle, figtrees.net. Large fruit that almost ripened for me its second year. Amazing roots, like Alma.
Attilio Purple - same source as the Attilio Green. Photos and description available on the forum as well.
Malta Black - geez, did that come from me? I don't remember. If it did, no ripe fruit yet, it's a small plant. Anonymous source.
Dalmatie - Anonymous. A good grower, no fruit yet. Evidently similar to Stella, but a much better grower than my Stella.
Branca - Encanto Farms. No fruit ripened yet, but I can tell it's a large fig, and very late. Did much better for me this year in a 17 gallon pot.
the VDB and Florea were on your wish list :)
Anonymous, and anonymous.
I took photos of leaves of most of my varieties this year, but I haven't gotten around to processing them.
Maybe soon I'll get all my reference material in order.

Hi Dave,

HF White is short for Hadoulis F. White, from Figs4Life (you out there George?) who has fallen out of touch. There are a few other growing it, and hopefully next season we will learn more about it. This is the most recent thread where is was discussed. There is plenty of confusion around this one, so if you have success with it, keep us all posted.

Kathleen's Black is from a member in the DC area who got it from Gene Hosey. It can take a few years to start producing, but it is said to be worth the wait. A thread with some good info is here:

Edit - The VdB cuttings came from a tree from Raintree.

Happy hollidays and keep up the good work!

The Preto, Abebereria and Branca are from the Portuguese trees I found in Point Loma.

The Beberia Branca is a 2-crop green fig that has a very early ripening breba crop here, usually end of June. It's breba are HUGE, a true handful. The main crop is much smaller, Mission size.

The Abebereria is a fast grower for me, roots quickly and explodes in growth, Lot's of long, black figs on my 3-year-old tree. Good flavor.

The Preto is the one that is almost exactly like the Black Madeira only difference is that it seems to ripen a couple weeks earlier. Same leaf, same unique shape of fruit, same flavor. An excellent fig.

These trees originally came from the Madeira Islands in the 50's (before it became illegal) via immigrants and the sticks in their pockets.

Thanks for that valuable info, Sue.  Straight from the main source!
Abebereria was one of the first to produce fruit for me this year.  I think it gave me 5 or 6 large figs from a five-gallon SIP.  It was also one of the first to go dormant.  Seems to be a reliable productive variety and absolutely beautiful.
