Need Recommendations For Top Notch Spanish Figs

Hello fig friends --- I am all excited at the chance to get some spanish variants but have very little idea what variants I should be seeking. This spanish gentleman have  a nice collection in the hundreds. I would appreciate all help  in recommendations for known quality variants. Thanks.

Paully

Paully,
I recieved an email via GardenWeb re the same subject. Without knowing more I would BEWARE.

Peg

I got one too...

Hmm something starting to smell a little fishy.

Paul,

If you know this gentleman than I guess it's o.k.
If you don't know him then just stay away!

I got one too:
If I was you I will propose a trade.
He send cuttings first, you send your trade second,no money exchange.!

I suspect that all of us or most of us who are GW fig forum members got
the same email. I got a laugh over this sentance.

" there are fig for human consumption, fig fed to animals, to feed dogs fig Spanish Mastiffs and dogs to Alans and fig ...."

Peg

I have read similar online for human consumption and those to feed cattle, pigs etc. I do believe  human and lesser quality for animals is true in some countries.
Sounds like he has a program of some sort for mass e -mailings and did so to the GW.

I am very thankful for all the good advise. One thoughtful fig friend cited in his personal mail -- there are enough good figs at my doorstep. This is very true. Thanks guys.

Yea, I got that email too. One thing is I haven't seen is his list yet. Is there a list of these 350 varieties of figs? I just asked him a 2nd time now.

Curious,
Little John

will probably copy/paste a list of Pons' orchard varieties.

Why am I being left out?

Am I chopped liver?

I was leftout also, Rafed.  But I have gotten a couple of emails from locals (here in GA) asking me to give them fig trees for friends, relatives, neighbors, etc.  I guess this is the downside to letting folks email you through  GW forums....

Jason,

Was just trying to be funny.
Because who ever this person is looks/sounds like he/she is trying to cash in.

I have a similar problem with someone on the internet at one of our local forums trying to cash in on heirloom tomatoes.

When you have things others that have an addictive interest or quality to them, there are always one or two people who instantly see dollar signs in their eyes and they will sometimes tell you anything to get their hands on them.

Just look at all of the stories from that 'Zergas666' guy (or whatever).  Every trade I ever read about with that person ended up a loss for the person trading.

I know I shouldn't let it get to me, but I find it really sad there are people like this in the world.  It's like the Nigeriam Scams have entered the fig world or something.

Jason,

I have a great uncle who recently was eaten by wild hogs in the mountains of Namibia ( just made it up ).
He left behind $35 million and I am heir ( I'm dreaming ) to his will because I am the last surviving member in the family.

Health issues have prevented me from traveling ( I can't travel? ).
So if you would and I am willing to offer you 35% to go to claim this money for me.

But I must warn you to conduct this service for me in complete secrecy.

But first I would ask you to wire me $500 so I can begin this process.

Remember, Complete secrecy.

Paul, Sorry to Hi-jack your thread but this is becoming funny!
It's not directed to you but to those knuckle heads that think they can get over on innocent people such as yourself and I'm glad you posted.
We could have just saved you from losing money.

Hehehehe, thanks, I needed a laugh for today ;)

some of you got a PM from me...

Michal thanks for the french kiss i send you back italian ones !  ; )
Still waiting on Paully's.

Martin, I will pass on this no matter how tempting. I almost ran out of breath after moving  some 20 gal pots from the garage to the backyard and unloading a yard of dirt & bark mulch from the truck. Not that young anymore.

Oh Paully dont mention dirt, i have to get 5 yards delivered and spread up on slope in back of yard next to fence and rope it off plant grass sees as over the the 20 years we been here the dogs we had and current ones have made a track back there.Any let over will go in garden.
Same as you not that young anymore only in heart.
In Morning i will look at the figs and cut the grass.

Funny, I also got that same mass-email  - apparently from a GW member
that never-ever posted anything public on the GW!

I just edited my GW (mail) profile....

At least  "one" above person guessed it very right...
I just got some, and-more-to-follow, (numbered/un-named) pics "off" Pons' own recent fig-book!
Copying those pics must have been much more laborious [but much more confining - Hmm!] than just a name-list.
