need some help starting a fig orchard

hi my name is reuben and I've been reading posts here for a while and I've learning a huge amount about my own figs. 


I've been offered an opportunity to start an orchard on some county land here in maryland next to BWI airport and I'd like to know if anyone here is interested in helping either through some planning and advice or by donating some clippings and trees. 

my goal is to create a public access pick your own orchard with more than just the usual apples and strawberries. this will also act as a genetic repository and I will provide free cuttings to anyone interested as we are able to harvest them

I have about 30 of my own small trees from celest and chicago hardy varieties that I have been cultivating. I have a greenhouse at my own home and can propogate from clippings but I'm also looking to get this off the ground in a hurry.

I am in southern Maryland, Chesapeake Beach in Calvert County. I have some varieties but most of them are young and have not produced fruit as of yet.

 

I am on ten acres and have a 30 foot wide by 100 foot long greenhouse that is heated so have capacity to expand.

 

Just wanted to connect and hopefully we can assist each others efforts in the future.

You might contact some of your local nurseries towards the end of bareroot season and ask if they have any plants/trees to donate. If they do, you can tag them with a 'donated by XXX' so the business will get some credit.

 

If you are looking for cuttings, you might ask in your local Craig's list too.

FMD, your orchard looks amazing and the pictures are exactly what I was hoping to see here.

I'm going to post some pictures of the areas I'm planning to use and also the work as it progresses. I'll also get some google map info up for anyone who wants to come and check it out.

right now i'm planning on putting the fig trees interspersed with some other fruit trees to break up the monotony of a mono-culture, robot planted orchard. also I'm going to be putting a lot of the trees in the spaces between some of the fenced horse runs.
