Negretta

I've been wanting a Negretta fig tree for awhile. This past winter a forum member surprised me with some cuttings. When I got it rooted I babied that tree. It was growing so good that I left a few figs on it so I could see how they tasted for myself. A few days ago I picked one, it was so so, then a couple days later I picked the second fig. What a difference, that fig was excellent. The first fig I plucked it off the tree too early, while the second one I left it hang a few extra days. That made a world of difference. Sweet with a flavor I can't really describe. How about if we just call it hmmm mmm good. Next time I'll try to eat it slower, if possible, so I can describe it. As for the size of the figs they were'nt very large but I'm not sure if it's because it's a young tree or if that's the normal size. Either way it's one to have.

Congrats on your Negretta. It will only get better with age.

Looks good Tony!

Any idea of the hardiness of this one?

Congratulations!  You still picked it too early  :)   If there's another one protect it from critters and wait until it hangs limply and is very soft.  See this thread.

Rafed that's what I want to hear. If it's good now at this early age and the horrible summer we've been having, I can't wait until it's older and a hotter summer!

Ed I'm not sure on hardiness but eventually I'll do an air layer and give it a test.

Bob I know it should of stayed on longer but I'm short on patience. Need to work on that. There's one more fig on it so I'll try my best to hold out for the right moment.
