I think this is the last fig I'll get for the season. My negronne is a beautiful shrub shaped tree, healthy, with lots of branching. I was disappointed when it only set 4 brebas, and then only kept 2. Something got one, leaving me with just this one. Could have used one or two more days but I didn't want to risk it. 

It had nice seed crunch (I like that) and a slight berry flavor to it. Still a young tree. Gave me one breba last year but one of my pups ate it so this was my first go. I just wish it was a heavier producer of the brebas.

Nichole, nice to hear that your Negronne is doing well for you as well. Ive been really happy with mine. Had a few very tasty breba, and now the main crop are ripening as well here in Maryland. Heres a collage of a few of mine, nice color, dark, and tasty.

I enjoyed fruits from my Negronne for about four or five years. It punished me this year with mediocre performance because I still have not yet root-pruned it. And there are more un-pruned plants that are not happy with me.

Here's how I get an extra day or two of ripeness out of Violette de Bordeaux while protecting it from birds and squirrels.

Use aluminum cans cut lengthwise or crossways and secured back together with duct tape. there are some refinements like drain holes (in case it rains), inspection doors (to check on fig ripeness), and stem and limb protection from sharp edges. It's stylish, too.

If it is just protecting from the birds and squirrel and have no quarrel with raccoons then why not just aluminum foil? It is fast if you many to protect.
