Negronne breba 2012

I am donating your tree to a family friend tomorrow, someone very dear to us.  If you need cuttings in fall, please give a shout, you know the deal.

Yes. I know the deal...a damn good one!

This weekend I will locate and check on the status of the Negronne that I have. I do my best to pot up one or two trees each and every weekend but it usually those with main crops started in pots that are too small that get my attention. This thread is forcing me to find the Negronne and give it some TLC ASAP. Thanks for giving me a reason...

Those look excellent Jason! Like a fruit spread on the cutting board. I used to have cream cheese and grape jelly sandwiches as a kid but now Negronne, and brie on a baguette sliver is where I'm headed. Thank you for sharing these.

Jason, is this the strain I sent your way a while back?   Either way I am glad I have negronne.

Ed, these are indeed the strain you sent to me in 2009/2010, I think?  Thanks again!  I wish the VDb that came at the same time would've made it but... They all perished when DW and I went to Spain and Italy for 2 weeks.  2nd batch of VdB took, so... Maybe next year will see some fruit.

Ok, last Negronne breba for 2012, and it was the best.  If this is breba and the main crop are even close, I'm blown away.  My expectations were high and I'm still pleasantly surprised.

Wait a minute, you haven't had a main crop negronne?  And you think *this* is good?

I think we mostly just had the perfect weather in Atlanta for these kind of brebas this spring.

Two years back,my Negronne produced the best tasting main crop out of about 50 cultivars. Purchased my tree from a local nursery. My tree also has the typical long finger like leaves.              Angelo NY ZONE 7A

Keep saying to folks while there may be a <few> good tasting white figs - come to the dark side.  ; )

Jam, on a tree! Those looks awesome Jason, thank you for posting the pics.

Jason--the dead ripe shots always seemed to be a bit smaller than the others.  Is that coincidence, or do they shrink a little as they get fully ripe? Guess I'm going to have to find a Negronne; those look amazing.

They do shrink a bit, but the size variance on the dogs pictures above was large.  Biggest was the size of a gold US dollar.  Smallest was the size of the tip of my middle finger.  Weird, but all awesome.

I looked Negronne up this morning on the Encanto varieties pages to get more info, and found I already have it. I didn't realize it was another name for VdB. That's good, because it means I don't have to go out and find one, and not-so-good because mine hasn't been very impressive so far. But, it's still young, so hopefully the fruit will get a lot better with time.

Ken,

There is some debate as to whether or not Negronne and VDB are identical. Some say yes. Some say they are just very very similar. Last year my VDB struggled with the heat and produced a lot of figs that were dry. This year it is more established and it is handling the heat better. The fruit on it is very nice this year. Give it time. It is an excellent tree.

Negronne was one of mine knocked over by my dogs in their pursuit of moless. I'll be lucky if I get a main crop fig.

thanks for sharing pictures!  they look delish!

Hi Jason,

Can you give us a 2013 update. It sure would be appreciated. I had a Negronne however it was one of my cuttings killed when a large grapefruit did a kamakazi dive on top of it.
