Neighbor has figs--I don't

The figless one is back.
Husband and I took a walk and came upon a neighbor's fig tree planted in the front yard.  It was full of BIG green figs.  Now a week or so ago, my tree in the back had some figs, so I went to see what I had.  I couldn't see any.  Mind you, it was dusk, so maybe the morn will reveal more.  DH suggested that maybe the bbackyard squirrels get my figs. Any ideas?
I live in Yorktown, VA.

Get some cuttings from your neighbor!!! It is probably the variety, squirrels will chew then drop, if the variety does not produce breba they just drop off clean. I had no idea parts of Virginia were Zone 8, big state.

First off, you have fig envy. It is a known and well documented disease. Not curable.

Second, check your neighbor's tree to see if the figs are forming on OLD wood, or are forming on the NEW growth. if they are on the old growth (from last season) they are breba figs. It may be that your neighbor has a variety that forms breba figs, and your variety does not. Nothing wrong with that, and no way to fix it, apart from getting a different tree.

These big green figs are on new wood--they are growing off the base of new green growth.  I will ask for cuttings.  It is such a pretty ornamental tree right out front, but I swear, the leaves look just like mine.  I checked my tree in the light, and I have just a few figlets, and I think even fewer than when I checked a couple of weeks ago.

If they are right at the point where the new growth begins, they are most likely breba.
