Nero 2015 breba

This is my first fig from this variety. This is the Nero listed by Jon, from the big Encanto Farms cutting extravaganza, received as a cutting in late winter 2014. There is not much info in the F4F forum or fig variety data collection. The plant was slow to get going last year and did not grow as well as most of my others, this year has been grown in a 5g SIP and has grown better. This is the only breba that formed, there are about 10 main crop figs on the tree.

The fig unfortunately split either yesterday or this AM, and became very soft around the eye, made me think it was spoiling so it was picked. The fig was very watery, only mildly sweet, similar in taste and low quality to the few fresh figs (Brown Turkey) that I have purchased at a store locally that were shipped from CA. Waiting on the main crop to see if it is better. A few pics follow.

Anyone else growing this one?

Looks to be a,superior fig. Never see one. Bet n3xt year or two it will be very impressive. Maybe main will bet more tasty

Hi eebone,
Be patient ! The first figs on a tree are often odd or at least not at their peak.

About patience: I'm still shocked. Yesterday, I passed by a fig tree that add big yellow figs the week before ... most were split but huge sized... But yesterday I couldn't find the tree.
Memory can be off sometimes, but not on the location of a fig tree. I looked around and on the ground and the tree was cut, laying flat ... Some people don't have enough patience I guess... Where am I supposed to find cuttings of that tree now ???

Hi Chuck!

Yes, it was out in the 6 weeks of seeming almost daily rain.  By my count, we have had no rain for the past 8 days but before that, we had no more than 2 consecutive days without rain in prior 6 weeks.

Wish it had been as good as it looked, but it is young and a breba.  Have the main crop to look forward to!
