Wow Pete those are beautiful. Try to keep those away from any trees affected by fmv. Congrats on your success.

Looks like little mini-Negronne or VdB leaves

Chris,

I have no idea. But, I did notice it also. They are in my new bins with clear top. Ones in my old bin with solid hinged tops have lighter leaves. This room gets some sun light through south facing window. Maybe what little filtered light they get helps.

Rob,

They are all in same bin with others showing FMV. I know sooner or later they will get FMV. Hope it's later :)

Jason,

They do look like VdB leaves. But it's from reliable source. Original source is Herman. Also middle finger is more slander and longer than my VdB Paradise Nursery.

NICE!

Wow beautiful leaves. He's a very happy plant. Nice work :)

Definitely a Nero 600. Good job.

Navid.

Yes I agree it looks like Violette(the leaVES),at this point, but my tree is not Violette,at all when tree mature,in fact, for my climate is the kind of cultivar I need to cope with my rainy climate.
Violette de B is a wonderful tasting cultivar when climate is warm, sunny and dry,but ,it sure can't take the cold rainy climate very well.
This year was ,Violette de B,only got ripe a couple of fruits and those were ,only mediocre tasting.
In 2007 Violette de B had my best tasting fruits from at least 50 cultivar, but 2007,had a nice warm long good Summer nothing like 2012,horrible climate.

Hey Pete those leaves look just like the VDB you sent me ??? or am I losing my mind?? These are pics of your cuttings im growing

PS the only real difference I can see is the very bottom of the leaves the 2 little lobes left and right

tony,

that is my VdB from Paradise Nursery which was sent to me by Gene H. at East Coast Figs. i always noticed that they are little lopsided when they first put out the leaves. then as the season gets going, they will show mature leaves. some of the earlier leaves can look rather weird.

the figs are amazing when the weather cooperates. even in rainny condition, it's edible, but nothing to write home about. in 2012, we had ton of rain here and only 2-3 figs blew up. on the other hand most of my Paradiso Gene blew up like flowers. Kathleen's Black also was very rain tolerant as far as blowing part is concerned. however, i'm still waiting on KB to improve on the taste dept.

Bullet congratulations on your plant .
Always said to myself there so pretty when there at this stage especially yours !

One of the Nero 600 I am rooting started out like yours Pete. After I potted it up it has continued to grow but has begun to show FMV.

Womack i have seen that happen numerous times with young plants as the virus can be slow moving.
Tony's second picture shows mishappen leaves a sure sign of things to come .
Some growers want clean plants while some growers don't mind.

WOW nice job !!!! Pete

almost need some finger nail polishing on those long fingers! Gorgeous, indeed!

Hey Martin
(Tony's second picture shows mishappen leaves a sure sign of things to come .)
Should I be worried is there going to be a problem I dont know if its gonna make it anyway but I just won a free give away from Matt.

i have seen some with FMV as young tree hiding FMV after growing up. and i have seen clean young tree showing FMV later on. just because i don't see FMV at specific stage, doesn't seem it doesn't have it. like herpes virus, i guess FMV can hide itself when everything is going well.

edit: VdB that i sent to Tony definitely has FMV. it shows every spring. however, as season goes on, the sign will go away and fig production is fine and it tastes great, providing the weather cooperates :)

Anthony you know the old saying - "Hey Forget about it"  i wouldn't sweat it.
Bullet  -hey thats what mine does.  rofl
hide n seek

Dominick i see the tree nice looking and a very close to what i had bought years ago as Violet de Bordeaux from edible landscaping.

Well I am looking forward to Valle Negra this year. The tips are just as red as Negretta. Some suggest may be the same as 600m and possibly Vallecalda.  Valle Negra and 600m may be cold hardier Vdb.

I figure it is possible the up potting provided enough stress to trigger visual FMV symptoms. I am not worried about it, but I have to admit that if I had a choice I prefer no FMV.

I have a small VDB EL and does look similar to my Nero and also show some FMV. I have started some VDB cuttings from another source ( don't know if they areEL or not). They have some leaves and are not currently showing FMV. I will enjoy comparing these over time.

I am excited about both varieties and can't wait to taste in a couple of years.

it seems Vallecalda is same as Nero 600M, but Valle Negra is something different. they all sort of look like VdB. it will be awhile before i can taste Nero 600M. more than likely next year, but i can't wait till my VdB starts to put on the figs. 2011 was amazing for my VdB. rain is good, but i hope it doesn't over do it this year.
