Paully:Believe me I did not have any Violette Type fig ripe properly to date this year.
I mean I have mature Vista,Violette de Bordeaux and Aubique Petite, and with small differences, they are related,I have no doubt.
All these three were my best Tasting fig cultivars in 2009,and 2010,but not this year, when they only made hardly edible fruits, due to the climate here this year,so bad it was.
Nero 600M is not a Violette type ,tho it looks close.
It was also sold as ,Valle Calda by the same gardener I got mine under Nero 600m name.
I have seen Valle Negra cultivar that Giuseppe Tozzi, got from Italy, and I am sure it is the same cultivar.
But Violette de Bordeaux ,no,that is a different cultivar.
What is good about Nero 600M, is that it seem to be better in rainy conditions.
Violette de Bordeaux type has no rival in taste and quality,in good Summer type climates, but it is not good in rainy Summer like this year and last.
I also had another year,I think it was 2005,when My Violette and George M, Violette de Bordeaux in North Jersey ,open up like a flower and ,tasted sour.
This new black fig,(Nero 600m),i got from France looks like in my climate is the one I need to end up my souring splitting problems when ripening under rainy conditions.
Paul, yes this fig is hardy, tho it seem it is a little later to ripe compared to Violette, but that could be because it is young, and it will become earlier, the older it gets.
