Never give up, NEVER GIVE UP!

So I've been nursing this Black Madeira for over 9 months, been in that 9 oz cup since last May. It would put out a leaf and then drop it, put out a leaf and  drop it.  I think women have babies in less time :)

Finally!

Maybe I can get a Guinness World record for number of nodes per inch?

Congrats, Keith. That must be a record!

Strong work!

Wow Keith.  That is amazing.  It will be interesting to see how many figs show up on all those nodes.  Looks like a wise ol fig.  And my BM is slowing putting out roots in the moss box.  Slow and sure.  Learning patience at the hands of mother nature.  ;-)

Thanks Keith.

I have a couple leaf droppers. I was wondering what their prospects were.

You just gave me hope and them some time.

Take care, Mike.

Keith, you deserve the AAAAA+++ for determination

I rooted a Black Madeira cutting from UC Davis spring of last year. It made roots in the cup, but never any leaves. I eventually transferred it to a 1 gallon pot and put it with the others in the drip system. It stayed there for a year doing nothing. A couple weeks ago, I pulled it out of the 1 gallon pot and saw that it still had roots and wasn't rotten or anything, but still no leaves. Most other varieties I would have tossed. But, it's a Black Madeira! I transplanted it into some fresh soil in a 5 gallon pot. Finally, a few days ago...

PS Is that moss growing in your cup Keith? Does that harm the fig?

By the way, the other half of the same cutting rooted, leafed out and grew about 18" last year.

Are those watering dates on the side of the cup or dates when you questioned your sanity for keeping it?

That's incredible, KK.  You give us hope!

I have a martinenca rimada fig that did. The same thing for two years. Stayed around 6 inchs tall. I ened up buying more cuttings and what do you know last month it took off. True story. I think it got jealous

Some patience. Very entertaining, it reminds me of a caterpillar.
