I told some members I would post photos of the New Brandy/Scott's Yellow that I got from JR .
It has leafed out faster than many of my figs and shows a little breba formation.
For those who are better than me at leaf ID I took enough leaf shots to show most of the variation in shape of the young leaves.
Don't expect to ID it right away unless it is obviously something else. Will update when the fruit ripens.
Can't compare it to my Scott's Black , it was cut back hard and has only tiny leaves at this point.

Serrated leaves does share similarities with Scott Blk. Hope you have
good news.

Kerry,

I was just out looking at my young plants and my Brandy that came from you (indirectly) and my Scott's Black do have adult leaves that look quite a bit alike.  The juvenile leaves though look nothing alike.

Tim, you may have answered this before, but have you gotten figs from both.

I hope all is well you, Sandy, and MIL. We are doing fine except Linda is suffering the aftermath of have a knee replaced. She on her feet and healing but having bouts with pain which are becoming less and less. Looks like I'm off towards a great fig season if only the rains stay away.

ROTF!!! You gotta watch that Scott Black--He sure gets around!

Yes, the SB is very delicious, so at least we all didn't get a BT instead.  It's a disappointment because we all REALLY want that SY. 

Be assured, there are some trees out there that are said to really be SYs, we just have to find them, but we all need to be sure they aren't SBs before we say we have SYs.

I now have quite a few SBs on my carport, the results of a treasure hunt gone bust, but I was pretty sure, because of the timing and shape of the leaves, the little trees were SBs.  They sure are delicious figs, though.  My oldest tree gave me some good figs this year.  It is the one I bought as a SB.

Now, having said that, Dr. Johnson said that LSU is going to be officially releasing an LSU Scott's Black fig into the trade.

Wait, there is more.....

He said there are more than just one SB.  (It's deja vu all over again.  I wanted to say, "So what else is new?"  But kept my whacky Jersey Girl smart mouth shut, for once.  Just about killed me.....)

The official SB from LSU will be the one with the red pulp.  If it doesn't have a red pulp, it won't be the official SB.  Now, we have to watch our SBs to see if they have a red pulp, or not.  ROTF!  It never stops, but it's fun and delicious, IMO, never mind frustrating.

Tim,  The leaf that is shown as a SB, doesn't look anyting like my SBs' leaves, as it's too solid.  Does it get black figs on it?

I hope everyone's fig season was/is a good one, this year.  :D

OMG Kerry it looks delicious! I'm so sorry you didn't get your SY though.
I love the looks of the ones where the color bleeds into the light surround.

This has turned into some interesting fun and it will be interesting to see where it will end up.  Even more interesting to see who will have true SYs and get some photos started.

I got a tree that is supposedly a White Triana, but it's not like Dan's WT, nor is it like several other's WTs.  It got brebas all over it this spring, then put some main crop that dropped.  In the middle of having brebas and getting main crop figs, it put out more brebas, one of which ripened and was one of the best figs I've ever tasted, sweet and very honey-flavored.  If I hadn't gotten that breba that ripened, I'd have trashed the tree, but I want more of those figs.  A person who watered our fruit plants, picked all of the large brebas to let them ripen on her windowsill, so I didn't get to taste the first crop of brebas this year.  I had told her she could pick and eat them as they ripened and she didn't know they wouldn't ripen after picking.  Just one of those things.  The figs are large and green, ripening to a yellow.  We'll always have surprises coming up to keep things fun.

This fig has turned out to be very, very good.

Hi Kerry,

In the photos, the skin looks tan, to me.  Is it?  My SBs are black-skinned. 

Yours look like SBs on the inside, but from what was said at LSU fig field day, there are more than one variety of SB.  Don't know that for certain because all of mine are red inside.  Wish I could give you more input, but many of the leaves look like my SBs.

They sure are delicious figs, though, aren't they?  Dr. Johnson said the official release has a red pulp, so I guess you have the real thing.

Kerry,
I can't give you a definitive answer but the leaves and fruit look like my Scott's black. I got it from Bass last year. The couple of fruit I got this year were dark purple, and I think it might be attributable to the combination of young tree age and cool weather at ripening. I thought the flavor was very good especially given the less than ideal conditions and I look forward to seeing how much better it gets with maturity.

Thanks for everyone's input on this ID.
I have another Scott's Black that didn't fruit this season , but I don't remember it being as exceptional tasting (though it was very good) or productive as this version.
Could just be age or difference in amount of sun or variation in soil mix/fertilizer  or this particular season , etc...that accounts for the quality.
This version also ripened fruit well in the cool weather , so it gets bumped up to a 25 gallon SIP next season.
I'd like to get Scott's Yellow eventually , but I'm thankful I got this good of a fig by mistake .

Kerry, thought I would post mine here also. This is LSU Scotts Black and it is from JR also. No leaf pics now, they are all crispy.
