New fig addict

Hi everyone,
Here is an article my Mom wrote about me and my figs.

A report from a mother.

It wasn’t enough that my daughter (Jubilee) has a yard full of animals, i.e., chickens, ducks, geese, a tom turkey, and multiple goats, now she has a new addiction to feed.

Figs!

It has gotten to her at a young age. She appears to have an extreme case, and it may be contagious.

An ad appeared on Craigslist for an estate sale back in May. One of the photos had a couple of old wheel barrows for sale with a fig tree in the background.

When Jubilee saw that photo her face lit up. She made sure we made it to that estate sale.

While there she urged me to ask the seller about the fig tree. He said it was his father’s, who recently died at age 99. He also said that his father made a lot of wine from that fig tree. I asked if we could get a cutting. He said someone already looked and there were no baby fig trees coming up around it. Jubilee had already let me know that we could start fig trees from a branch of the tree so I asked if we could cut off a branch. He said sure so we cut a three-foot branch off. After getting it home we cut it into six or seven pieces.

We not sure what kind of fig it is but some of the cuttings are growing. If the figs from this tree make wine that helps you enjoy life until age 99 it will be worth it.

Now she is planning on going to the upcoming Greek Festival so we can ask any of the older folks there if they have any fig trees from Greece. If she keeps going at this speed the yard will be full very soon:)

Welcome to the forum, Just a guess, the tree looks like a Celeste.

Hi Jubilee , looks like you and Mom have the fig bug for sure !! You're off to a good start . Good luck fig hunting .

Welcome, Jubilee. I think mom has if fact been infected as well. Starting to show symptoms.
I started out with one peter's honey last summer, I now have 29 varieties.

I have met some very generous members on this forum.

PM me this fall, I'd love to continue the great tradition of
generosity we all experience in this awesome group of people.

Welcome Jubilee! You are a fine addition to our forum.

Welcome to the forum! Hope you get lots of great figs to eat.

I just picked up an unnamed Greek fig from a nursery in NJ. They have more for sale , but a hike from Long Island. Hionis Nursery in Whitehouse Station. I also picked up one of the only unnamed Russian figs they had.
