New fig find.

While roaming around Point Loma looking for more figs I ran across this beauty:

I ate this fig on Dec 28th after photographing it. It was sweet and very tasty...at least the lower half was. Upper half wasn't ripe. Not sure what it is but it was good! Yep, I snagged some cuttings.

Sue, good catch!

It must be nice to eat a fresh fig on Dec.28th.Probably nothing out of the ordinary for you guys out there. Congratulations on your find.  I've got lots of relatives all over Los Angeles,Long Beach, etc. but can't find one willing to hunt figs.  Tim

It reminds me of the Shtawi fig that ripens in winter.
Good find.

Sue you've got my saliva flowing, even if it's only a half of a fig. I never did make it to San Diego this past year but the plan is for an August trip for my sons wedding. If that works out I just might spend all of my free time wondering through the back streets looking for fig trees. That should be fun, al least for me.

The house where I found this fig is not inhabited but the home is being remodeled. I wrote to the owners and hope to hear back as to what variety the fig is. Since no one lives there, not sure they will get the mail. I'll be back in the area Friday and will take a pic of the tree and the remaining fruit. Hopefully someone will be there working on the home.
