Hi everyone. I just joined this forum and am amazed at all the great information on growing figs.
I attempted to grow figs a few years ago without much success. I had two brown figs trees that I grew in pots. They didn’t do well and I think its because I didn’t keep the soil consistently moist I think it went from too dry to too wet. That’s my guess. But the biggest problem they had was the hot dry air. The leafs burned at the tips. What few figs they produced fell off the branches. So I gave up. But a few years ago I got a green house. I needed a way to protect my plants from the hail we get every June and July, It also protected them from critters and high wind. So I tried to grow some figs in 5 gallon buckets inside the green house. They loved it and grew quickly. I also noticed that the roots grew into the ground through the holes I drilled at the bottom of the buckets. This worked out well because I couldn’t over water them. I have four varieties. The Texas brown dwarf I bought from a seed catalog, The Brooklyn white, Hardy Chicago and most recently a variety called Binello fig tree all bought online from Ebay.
I succeeded in getting some fruit this year and hope to get more next year. Here are a few photos of my trees.
