new fig grower in Zone 5

I live in Elkhart, IN near Michigan state line.
I was given 2 small fig starts 2 years ago and have stored them in unheated garage in planter containers. I do not know for sure what variety they are. They came from Alabama.
I pinshed back serval of the new growth buds on one tree and it ix loaded with figs. I am attaching photos of the tree and the 2nd ripe fig before I ate it. It was very sweet. Think I could have waited a few more days to pick it.
Help me out with the variety if you can.
Thank you
EJN Indiana

Welcome to the forum. being a newbie myself, I would not even attempt an identification however I do know that for proper id, most members would request very specific pictures of individual leaves (multiple if the plants throw out different leaf configurations at the same time). Additionally, pictures of the fruit at full ripeness both exterior and interior help in the id (as provided). Average weight of fruit also helps as well as some indication of the flavor profile (even though that can vary by individual)...

Cheers,
Tony

Welcome! I'm a newer member as well. I live near Indianapolis. Good to see a fellow Hoosier in the forum! Hopefully someone here can help you out on variety name. Looks good though!

Thanks,,
I willl take some photos of the leaves and add another riper fig in halves
Several figs seem to be ripening a week now. I am one happy camper.
I have the small 31/2-4 ft trees on the south side of the garage near water in big planters. Recently set up drip watering off sprinkler system.

I'm in South Bend Indiana 1/2 mile south of Michigan. We will have to exchange some fig cuttings. I'm still wondering about winterizing my figs in the basement or unattached garage. Message me sometime.

I have winterized my two potted fig trees in unheated garage afer with holding water when the leaves dropped in the fall. I begin watering abit the first of April while still dormant and move them outside to the south side of the garage as weather warms and buds swell.
This year was the bumper crop year on one of the trees.

Thanks I'll store mine in the garage then more room. Then I'll put them to sleep once the leaves drop like you said come April I'll bring them out. I am leaving one of my Chicago hardys outside.
