New fig pest for me

Yesterday was my first day for multiple ripe figs on several different trees. As I was checking one tree, I caught a grasshopper noshing a ripe fig. It bit little grooves into the fig just below the surface of the skin. His final meal.

RIP Grasshopper !!!

Grasshoppers are the #1 pest at my location (well, other than deer). I grow strawberries, blueberries, blackberry. raspberry and a few fruit trees. They love to eat strawberry leaves. Best thing is Sevin. Kills em by the hundreds. Problem is it only lasts for 4 or 5 days and your not supposed to do back to back applications and your only supposed to use twice in a season. Imidacloprid was good but it has been linked with honey bee collapse. So I don't use it anymore.

Blackfoot - I'm also a beekeeper, so thanks for stopping Imidacloprid :)

The grasshoppers aren't a terrible nuisance. Right now, pick and squash when I catch them. I had my kids on Japanese beetle patrol earlier this year. We just picked them off the zinnias and dumped in cups of soapy water. Maybe I should send out my patrol again...

Set up some traps cut the top 1/3 of the bottle off invert it put the rotting fruit inside put the top on upside down and bury it with the top open so the bugs can fall in. Then in the morning collect what you caught. Works wonders for the pill bugs and the crickets here in my yard.

Chickens, and Road Runners eradicate them too.

In Texas the masses take down my trees. Their taste vary from year to year, but LSU Purple always seems to be on the menu.
