New fig tree found

I was in Little Italy in San Diego at Dick Blick's Art Store. At the back of the parking lot I spied a fig tree of all things. I thought it might be a wild tree but it is growing from the property behind Blicks coming thru the fence. Still could be wild but it looks pruned and cared for.

It's a black fig with 3 main types of leaves from 3-7 lobed (thumbs and no thumbs), 2 types of fruit growth some with long peduncles others short to none. I saw no breba. Lots of long new growth on branches of 2-3 ft in this drought! There was one main crop fig soft enough to eat but not really ripe. It was very good and I can see the potential for it being a really good fig. I'll go back next month in hopes of finding ripe fruit. Taste was similar to Mission. Could this be a Mission?

Despite the leaves, it is probably a Mission. Though they are less than typical "Mission" leaves, I have seen them before, and some even more radical.

Nice looking fig Sue. The fruit looks like a mission and I have also seen funny looking leaves on my mission over time. It actualy seems to follow a different leaf patern every year.

Good to hear that it's a tasty variety. Thanks for sharing Sue. It's amazing how some fig trees can put on new growth in this time of drought. I've seen it myself too. I saw a fig tree in an alley in North Park that was just exploding with new growth, and another smaller, bushier one near St. Therese Parish in Tierrasanta.
