new figs

Balanced out my tree collection through the generosity of one of the members here who is trying to thin his herd. Alama, Portuguese dark and some more Chicago hardy.

They seemed to like sleeping in the back of my truck under the commercial topper! The weather is to dip below freezing for the first time this year every night the rest of the week so they must now go into the workshop tonight.

The ten cuttings from themetsaregreat are now rooting after being in the bag with moss for 4 weeks. Dark purple Italian was the only description.   As long as they provide good growth and good tasting figs, I will be happy.  Any of the types I have received from my portuguese cousins are all unknowns, so I can't complain.

All of the Green Ischia cuttings from Vince are now pushing roots

They look good and strong even dormant!

Looking good. Can you give any info on taste on any of the Portuguese variants? I have been looking at a few and kinda want to know a little more about them before I spend a bunch of money trying to acquire any.
Jeff

Jeff, The taste is as with many, a function of the type and the growing conditions.  I like the the taste of the dark Portuguse one, but I have had some from New Bedford, MA area that were better and some that were worse.
