Feigen aus dem eigenen garten by Christoph Seiler. if you understand German, this is a very nice and usefull Little handbook, especially if you grow figs in Central or Northwestern Europe, an especially if you are new to figs. Good introduction to fig growing and relevant varieties. All the most important ones are described, and a few new, marginal or exotic fig-varieties are also included. 40 varieties included with nice photos. I would not hesistate to recommend the book to anyone who is growing figs, North of the Alps. I have never visited Christoph Seiler, or bought any plants from him, but for years he has been selling figs in his hobby-webshop, so he has a lot of experience with figgrowing in Central Europe, and this is obvious from the details he has in the book. I don't think he is a large scale business, but an interest-driven hobby producer of figtrees. I was not expecting much from this book at 15 Euros, but I think I got a lot for my Money. I even learned several new things. I suspect Christoph is a regular visitor here, so if you read this Christoph: Thank You for the effort. I probably also have to get in touch with you and buy a couple of fig-trees in your webshop ! If you want to find the book or the webshop, just Google the booktitle or "Christoph Seiler feigen"

Yellow Neches, Becane (might be the same) and any other main crop fig variety, that ripens earlier than Ronde de Bordeaux

Thanks, Michael... Was able to browse through first 23 pages using their book look feature and it seems to be a pretty nice book... Good find!

Christoph Seiler is selling a local variety: Lussheim. Lussheim should be very hardy with treelike growth. It has no breba figs but the main crop is very early: July-August. Has anyone tried this variety? I planted my own Lussheim tree outdoor last winter, when danger of servere frost was minimized. It survived very well but the trunk got quite damaged by a rodent in late spring, so no figs this year. However a new trunk grew from ground during the summer. MichaelL, Z7, Southern Denmark
