New Grower on Long Island - got the bug!

Man, you have got to encourage your eger and willingly helpful neighbor to stop pulling up figs and start using a shovel... hahaha.

Thanks guys so much for the welcome!

I think he did use a spade to get the other suckers out, but he is oldschool remember :) . There were a good amount of roots on them all, so pulling or shoveling i guess wont matter. I had the suckers in shade last night and then a crazy windstorm blew in and moved all my cover for the plants and they were subjected to sun this AM, very upset :(

Welcome to the forum, Matt.

Definitely keep those potted suckers in shade and dry.

Humidity......try putting a clear plastic garbage bag or the ones you get on your dry cleaning like a tent over the tree.

Welcome. I am also pretty new, and in queens with some family out on the south shore. I have some hardy Chicago rooting now and may have extras. Check back with me in a month or two.

Thanks Danny/Scott!

figinqueens - thanks dude, let me know. I am also rootings some unk brooklyn fig (in another post) and ill save one for you if i'm successful  and your interested.

Here is an update to my 3 suckers i was growing from my neighbor, it looks like i got 2 successfully growing - the third i think might be done, but will let it stay in pot till frost to see. These are not growing from the roots provided from the sucker, they are growing from the nodes (basically acting as a cutting). These are all getting a few hours of sunlight a day, they are in fafard (promix) and dont drain well - will be changing them to 5-1-1 once they go dormant.

unknown white fig, the larger of the 3 suckers and the one that is growing the best. I cut them all down to 4" above soil.

Unknown small brown fig. Has a bud coming out of node, it looks a bit bigger today (this pic is from 2 days ago).
