New little gal...move him to a bigger pot?

Hey All - So my collection has increased by one...got this little gal here just today, and am wondering if I should go ahead and move her to a 1 gallon pot with potting mix of 60% Perlite and 40% compost? or keep her in here? And how can I tell when she's ready for a bigger pot? I don't see any roots in the drainholes as of yet. And how can I rotate my picture so it's not sideways? :) (Also forgive the "him" in the subject, I changed it from guy to gal when I realized I would HOPE it's not a male plant, but then missed that little change and can't figure out how to edit the subject)

Thank you all!! photo(10).JPG

If it were my plant, I would go ahead and move it to a 3 gallon pot since it's just the beginning of the growing season.  As for potting mix, I'll let others give advice.

I agree with FiggyFrank.  Move it to a bigger pot.

I have Photoshop, so easy to rotate and edit photos.  No advice there.  Just make sure whatever soil you use is well drained 1/3 peat, 1/3 perlite or vermiculite and 1/3 a combo of sand or turface (the stuff they put on football fields), fertilizer, and love.

Fig roots do not like to sit in water!  Will this potted fig be on a drip system or are you hand watering?

Figs are actually like weeds.  They want to grow.  You are in the right climate!  Just don't overwater or overthink~

Hand watered....which of course stresses me out. lol. I need to try to not over-think it, you're right. And I have sand from my son's sand box, would that work?

Keep the sand in that cute boy's sandbox!  just get some chunky stuff like crushed granite to allow air and water to flow through.  I like Turface (brand name), but it's not easy to find here.  Probably easier in LA county!

Watering needs to change as the seasons change.  When the weather heats up, you need to water more so the roots can get what they want, but now.... sit the pot out and let it get the rain this weekend!

Can't wait to see the figs this one produces!
