Just wanted to take a few minutes and say hello and thanks.  I always liked the dried dark figs you can buy at the store, and since I was planting a small orchard on my property figured I'd try my luck.  I have been reading posts for about a year now, and based on all the great info I have picked up the following Figs: Celeste (willis), Violette De Bordeaux (1-EL 1-Raintree), Pette Negri (EL), and Sultane (Raintree).  Think I may order a Black Mission (NL) and a Rouge De Bordeaux (76) from Encanto Farms this spring.  I live in central Virginia and when they get big enough they will be in ground trees.  Thanks again!

Welcome to the forum! (/family)

I hope anything you bought at Willis ends up being correct.  They are notorious for mis-labelling figs and sending out "whatever".

Just a note about Black Mission.  The one local to me is super sensitive to rain, it swells heavily after rainfall, and it makes the fruit taste sub-par.  For this reason, it is not suited for me in the more southerly eastern coast.

Welcome Brian
Your first purchase choice seems to be good and I hope that all plants come true to the label.
just in time for Encantofarm cuttings to be unveiled in a day or so, so you can try some rooting of cuttings yourself.

The celeste fig from Willis was part of my first online fruit tree purchase.  No figs yet.  I bought it along with six nectarine trees last spring.  The price was right.  Five of the six are either a peach or nectarine.  They have not born fruit either, but the leaves and trees look like my older peach tree.  One is not even in the peach or nectarine family. I think it may be a plum???  If the fig turns out to not be a celeste, I'll give it away.  There are at least 15 grown celeste trees around my work.  I took 8 cuttings from the best tasting one a few weeks ago and am in the process of bag rooting them as we speek.  I was going to give them to coworkers if successful, but I may keep one for myself.   Funny how quick the addiction hits.

Welcome Brian.
you typed
"Funny how quick the addiction hits"

Brain - unknown to many on scion, dormant fig plants and growing ones there is a microscopic bug unseen by the eye that bites its owner early on .
This is known as the what you describe as the addiction.
Ive heard many call it different names as well.

Sounds lilke you have been bit.  ; )

Welcome to the forum Brian.

Obviously another victim of the figus bugus that Martin was referring to.

There's no known cure but I hear ripe figs are reccommended as treatment :) .

My name is Bill and I've been a figaholic for just over a year now...........

PFFFFTTT!!!  Who cares about a cure for that addiction anyway?

Welcome Brian,

noss

Ciao Brian, welcome here, I with Viv, I don't want any cure for fig addiction, I had all my life, can't change now! Its such a part of my life, don't see much life without, like breathing air. Very natural.

Hi Brian, welcome to the forum. Your Willis Celeste will probably be a Celeste. Seems they send out Celeste trees in place of what you actually order. I got Celeste trees labeled Black Jack & Italian Everbearing, so... Hope it works out for you.

About the addiction, at least it's not destructive, so have fun!

noss.  I didn't realize that reaction could be expressed so well in print - PFFFFTTT!!! - that's good stuff. LOL!

Welcome Brian!

Bill!  I like your treatment for the addiction.  Figs and as many as you can ingest?  PFFFFTTT!!!  Is an airy snort and very apt, IMO.  :)  I like it too, thanks.
