Welcome to The Club, Earman!
You've found the best place on the web to further your fig obsession :)
We'd love to see pictures of your Fig Tree!
I'm sure your Father would be happy to know you're carrying on the Fig Tradition - That's Great!
You're fortunate to have had Figs early on in life (thanks to that Italian Heritage no doubt!)
Many of us found them later and are now hopelessly "hooked" - Haha!
Have FUN!!!

   Hello earman,
I wish you great success with your fig tree, and may it grow vigorously so you can plant cuttings and ensure it's survival.  You are very fortunate to have your father's tree. Both of my grandfather's brought fig trees over with them and grew them.  DK why but no one passed them down.  I like to believe in my assortment of Italian and French fig trees I may have the same varieties as my grandfathers'.

Earman,
Looking good! I like all the side-branch action happening!
If you didn't catch the following info on Pruning, it might come in handy as you "shape" your tree.
Thanks to Pete S.

thanks for the link, the idea of cutting a branch off is very nerve racking but I know I have to do it, LOL

Welcome....and good luck with your tree

Earman, I know what you mean about pruning. Ouch!  but look at it as a chance to propogate new trees.what small pieces can become new trees. This was just a twig, not the recommended size for a cutting,  but everything healthy I cut off (or breaks off)  gets put into a pot and has potential to become a tree.
