Hi, I am a new member. I have just purchased my first fig cutting. I do not know if it's the right one for my zone (7a in utah). I am not even sure they will grow here but willing to try. I may need help along the way. I am willing to learn. I have time on my hands, and want to learn. Does this form have any members that live in utah and have a successful fig planted? What is the best fig for my zone. Glad to be here. Can't wait to learn. Thank you

Hi mars55!  I'm not in your zone, however, there are many members here who grow figs very much unsuitable for their areas, but make it work anyway.  ;)  Lots of growers on this forum from the Northeast who wrap or garage their trees during winter and do the "fig shuffle" in the spring to extend their season.  If you search "winter" or "winterizing" in the search area, you'll find hours of great reads.

Welcome and all the best!

Thank you for all of the info. I have lots to learn.

Welcome to the forum.... beware the fig addiction, the sign at the door (put there by a forum member named Dante who was known to have a fiery temperament) reads "abandon all hope ye who enter here"....   :-)

Thank you. I am afraid I have been biten. I want to try to root some. When is a goo time to start.

Welcome!  Dormant cuttings root more easily than green cuttings.  Look up our members in Colorado, Toronto or upstate NY or even New England.  I don't know if NEnewbie is still on here but New England Gardening has fig videos on you tube and their winters are not all that different than yours.  Ignore posts from Vancouver and British Columbia because their winters are milder than yours.  The figs that are best for others with short summers and cold winters will also be best for you.  Desert King, Ronde de Bordeau, MBVS, Florea are all early figs.  If we define summer as temps over 83 then you only have about 6 days, so you need short season figs  :)

Here's a video on propagating green fig wood.  It works best if temperatures stay above 65 and get to 80.

7a should not be a problem for most any potted figs.

I am in CT 6b, very close to 7a.

In this zone here, I can account for over 700 types between friends and forum members.

Plenty of addiction to go around!

Welcome aboard, Mike

Ok now I really need so advice. I believe I have a Texas ever bearing, but the more I read it may have a different name. Again I live in 7a zone what should I plant to get a good crop? The more I read the more I get confused
