Recently when signing on and looking at the bottom of page I saw new members.
As of late there have been more and more folks becoming members, some choose to stay on sidelines and read while others tend to jump in and ask questions etc.
Its great that forum is getting larger. Just dont be afraid to chime in once in a while with questions, suggestions, experiences or whatever you may have to say concerning figs. There are so very knowledgeable folks here that can help if you are having a problem . Also take time to fill out profile and your zone especially zone as this helps when dealing with growing conditions and things similar.
In that being said WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW FOLKS!

It is the communty aspect about figs that I enjoy more than anything else: meeting new peopole, learning new ways of doing things and new paths to success with our plants.

And, there is no such thing as a dumb question to ask.
The answers from newbies, old-newbies and even different experts may vary because the answer from each one reflects their own experience and no one can say that there is only one way to do things in all situations.
When more questions are asked, we get answers from different angles and we all learn. We learn from those who have been practicing expedited ways of rooting with some associated risks and we also learn about rooting experience with slower but low risk rooting processes. We can practice different ways but over time we gradually start to prefer one more over the rest. It is natural.
So keep the forum busy with your questions.

 Hello Martin, and thanks for making me feel welcome to this great forum.
  I would like to thank Jon also for it. How could you not join when somebody like Dan offers you scions for the cost of shipping becouse
he hates to see them go to waste. I too have caught the fig bug real bad and it's a good thing. I have been reading the posts quite frequently and I
learned so much from all of you. I was born in Molfetta Bari and you would
think that I would have known a lot more about figs but I had to learn the hard way, trial and error and a lot of patience. What amazes me is that you
can walk up to any home with a fig tree in their backyard and you meet a
great new friend and hear their story. I am very computer shy and I am
trying to learn how to navigate through this maze. I hope I am replying
to the right thread. Thanks again, Sergio F.

aw dont be shy im also not to good with computer.
My dad was from Mola di Bari, mom was from (Agrigento)Sicily. Had friend at work from Mola as well .Some on forum from other countries as well, France , Austria, Poland, Germany, and a great fella from Malta and others also from all over which is great ! Yes many stories you hear when talking here and with people you see in neighborhoods that have the fig trees. Anyways dont be shy and look forward to your post and perhaps pictures in future.

Just a few more and the total will be 200 Members.
Dont forget to take the time when in the cotrol panel to fill out signature so when posting we can see what zone your in, its most helpful.

Yesterday 196 members today 197, just chatted with new member and left room looked on bottom of forum and saw another new member now 198.
Wow it sure is growing now if we can see some pictures and more post that would be great.
So dont be shy you have a machine to hide behind!!!

200 plus members and counting !
Perhaps in a few years the forum will continue to grow and eventaully grow to 500 or so .  200 plus members is a start!

I could not help but notice the newest Alfredothefigmaster ( Welcome)
i tend to look at profiles and seen Alfredo's figmaster in part of screen name.
Also notice half owner of italian restaurant.
Alfredo i looked it up and saw menu. I did not see the desert menu part , oh i love gelato i saw that in your profile.
Also do you make Bracioles at the restaurant, perhaps one day if im back east traveling i would consider to stop by .

Hi,

Just starting out in the fig world.  I have a kadota and an italian honey fig, both rooted cuttings I got from ebay.  Wondering the best places to obtain scions?  I imagine it may be easier once I can 'trade' but at this point, mine are much too small, altho the kadota is growing something fierce. 

I also assume its too much to expect any figs this year?

thanks, looking forward to learning much, much more.  I'll try to get some pictures of my starter fig trees!

If you get cuttings (or figs) from Encanto Farms, you will be getting figs true to name. EBay figs may be fine, or may not be the right variety. It's surprising how fast they accumulate once you begin trading.

Been looking at new members profiles as of late when i see on bottom of forum new member " please welcome newest member".
I see some do not post a location ( state ) or simply post a name perhaps a town im not familar with.
Seems though most are from back east and west and south. I have not seen to many or it seems from midwest like illinois my state. I know i know they are popular west and especially east coast and in the south , i have seen a few post from wisconsin and michigan but not many and 1 maybe from illinois besides my big mouth and i wonder why, is it because of our climate yet they can grow here decent with some care.
Anyways welcome new members and as always look forward to your future post just dont be shy!

I been here since I unwrapped my in ground figs this year and noticed they were all dead to the ground, looking for some thoughts and ideas I stumbled across this site and it has been a great wealth of info to me ever since. With that said I want to take the time to thank all the members here who do take the time to post and offer opinions and various ideas for the fig growers out there.

Just had to sign up so I could say THANKS for your help.  I have been wanting to grow a fig tree for years (grew up with figs!) so when my daughter moved into a duplex with a fig tree, I immediately got a couple of cuttings. Came home and stuck the whole thing in the ground, leaves and all, having heard figs grow easily from cuttings. AFTER I planted them (can never seem to do this in the right order -- research, then, plant), I googled figs and lucked out by finding this site, absolutely chock full of everything I needed to know, BEFORE planting! So I read and read, then went outside and pulled up one of those stalks with the intention of paring away leaves and doing it right, and lo and beyold, that cutting, leaves and all, had already started rooting in less than 24 hours! And this without knowing a darn thing. So, following attached sage advice, I decided to experiment and left the other one alone, leaves and all, and trimmed back a "proper" cutting about 6 inches long, and stuck it back in the dirt with a plastic bag on top.  If this doesn't work out, I will be more proactive and grow roots, then plant, but wanted you to know that, thanks to you guys, I feel very confident some way or another I will have a fig tree before my daughter moves again.  Appreciate you figgies!

Your 1 that has posted many nice things since joining!
Hopefully when you go on leave somehow you may still be able to post maybe even grow a plant wherever you may be stationed?

Just would like to say Welcome to the new members.  ; )

A year ago there was about 200 members ( post 13 ) and i said perhaps in a few years it would reach 500 members.
I was wrong as i often am.

 In a short time Jon's wonderful site will reach  500 members   from 200 a year ago.

Anyways Welcome and as always others and i im  look forward to seeing your post, questions, photo's if possible - shoot i get bored talking to the same old folks.

TMC2009,Great video,There are certainly many fig enthusiasts on this forum.In a couple of years I will be able to share cuttings from the few fig trees that I grow in containers.Good luck
