Good day, yesterday while it was 68 degrees, I took a trip to Pike's Nursery to see if they had any new figs in stock. Of course, they had Brown Turkey..... I wasn't surprised. BUt they also had a few others that you normally don't see. They had Peter's Honey, Kadota, Mission, and Black Italian. No one there had any knowledge of figs.....I just love asking them questions to see if anyone has knowledge about figs.
They did say, they knew nothing about them but had a new supplier this year. A company called Greenleaf Nursery out of El Campo, Texas. I googled then and sure enough, they had a website. THey have 4 locations for us down south. According to their website, in my area they had Brown Turkey, Black Italian, celeste, and LSU Purple.
At Pikes, I bought one of their Black Italian figs, the tree was so freaking large and healthy. I just couldn't pass up the price. Pikes also had Monrovia. Monrovia is always expensive in our area. Always in the tall green container and $50+ dollars for one tall trunk tree, but good size. I was glad to see a new company like Greenleaf out there. Their prices are reasonable. Fellow fig friends down South, check out their website. They have a nursery in Tarboro, NC so I'm sure they supply a lot of large nurseries in the NC area.
