New subject for me - dwarf figs

Before starting - I've grown/trained a couple of bonsai (local trees but had to give them up because at the time I started to have to travel) so I know how to dwarf/stunt a tree.  That's not a problem.  I want to have a couple of smaller trees in pots on my deck.  Winter storage is somewhat of a challenge.  That's the reason for wanting smaller trees.  Research and searching yield that Petite Negronne is likely a natural semi-dwarf as well as possibly VdB and Black Maderia.  It doesn't appear that there is any "true dwarf" edible figs.  I do know that the common answer to dwarf figs is to use a vigorous grower and prune, prune, prune.  But what are some possible slower growing figs so that I might just have to prune or even prune, prune?

Petite Negri is supposely a slow grower and dwarf variety. I bought one from Raintree Nursery but it seems related to VdB if not the same. It doesn't appear to be either a slow grower or dwarf.

when i was getting my trees, i got VdB because it was mentioned it will do well in container/pot and will be small. my VdB is now as tall as paradiso. also i keep hearing how great VdB tastes. if i was better informed, i would have also gotten col de dame gris the source for my trees had small col de dame gris plant.. too bad my source is no longer doing fig thing..

Try Negretta or Wuhan (horizontal spreading growth)....

Both my Petite Negra (Park Seeds), supposedly a dwarf;
 and my VdB (EL) showed very similar [Edit: normal] growth (in pots).

Dunno how it got it's name but Petite Negra is anything but petite for me. In fact it is one of the largest potted trees I have. If you use bonsai techniques you can miniaturize just about any tree though. A good fig variety to try is Ventura as it naturally stays kinda tight. More than anything though, culture is key. Keep fertilizer to a minimum, use a shallow pot and prune prune prune. No way around it really.

BLB,

My Ventura (2007, JustFruitsAndExotics, FL) grew rather vigorous and tallish.
It died 2 winters ago and recently I have replaced it with another from a different vendor [Edit: JR].

I have a brown greek that has real tight nodes it is a rooted cutting right now and I am watching the growing characteristics but it might be what you are looking for..there has to be 6 -8 nodes per inch of wood.
