I'm from Adelaide, South Australia. Mad about figs.....Which is the best fig varieties to start with...I like eating figs fresh.

Does anyone know where is a good place to buy fig plants in Adelaide please.

I can say..."welcome to the forum"....but living in New York City, I can't comment on your requests.  Can you describe your climate, temperatures, and if your growing season is long, or short, will you grow in full sun, containers vs in ground...etc?

You will find the answers to your questions, here, probably before the day ends, but post more information.

I will abstain of spelling the variety of the fig on the pictures as the growers/producers have kept silent  about it. I also think that it may be available on some nurseries.

But one thing is certain... it is one of the very Best!   if it is the fruit displayed on the pictures.

These days we have to be cautious looking at fig pictures.. Some are genuine, others NOT
But I am pretty confident that the pictures on the page are from fruit grown in Australia .

If the producers allow visits to their orchards, I think you should get there to have a look, talk to them, may be take some pictures to show us in the forum. They could even let you have a couple of cuttings as souvenirs !!

Food Forest in Gawler normally have a stall in farmers market in Goodwood. You can buy Black Mission, Celeste,Archipal, italian Honey Fig, Adam from Graham.
Also Perrys fruit and nut nursery in Mclaren Flat sells varieties like Spanish Dessert, Pink gerusalem
Normal varities Like White Genoa, White adriatic, Black Genoa and Brown Turkey, yellow Excel you can get from Bunnings.

Adelaide has a climate similar to southern CA. It's on the south central coast. I spent two weeks there in 1980. Great place for figs. Perth, in the news now, and on the western coast is even more like SoCA

Hi Kaspar,
as long as you don't take a cutting from an unknown wild fig tree, all cultivars are good to go with.
Be it directly from a tree from a neighbor that can tell you more about that strain or from a nursery.
The most spread here are brownturkeys due to their cold resistance - but I think that you don't have those problems there ? or ? How cold does it get at your location ?
Some nurseries only have fig trees at the good season - here it is now at spring time that I can find figtrees more easily.
Are you going pots or in ground ?

With some general and food shops selling fig trees sometimes... They label everything and anything to BrownTurkey.
I saw a green fig labelled brownturkey.
I bought a second brownturkey whose leaves don't resemble the leaves of my first brownturkey.
I'll see what I bought when the second tree will fruit - for the price, it was worth the fun.
So look at the leaves, and if they look like a tree you already have ... But if they don't resemble then it is up to you to decide whether to give it a try or not ...
Depending on the price, I would give it a try .
