New to forum

Hi All, I found this forum while searching for info on fig trees. I purchased a Blue Texas Giant at a local nursery and put it in the ground a week later, that was two months ago. A few weeks later it started to grow leaves, it seems to be doing well but has no sign of figs, is it too soon? Secondly, there are spiders on the tree building webs and something is eating some of the leaves, not sure if it's the spiders or something else and definitely don't know what to do about it so any advise is welcome. I had wanted a fig tree for years, my grandmother had several very large fig trees in her yard and the figs were absolutely delicious, dark and very sweet. I had no clue there were so many varieties of figs and picked the Blue Giant only based on the picture on the tag, once I planted it and started reading about figs I realized what my grandma had were most likely Black Mission, which I have not been able to find locally - I live in a suburb of Dallas.

Welcome to the forum, I'm new too, I have a few fig trees, here in north west Louisiana, I have never seen spiders eat on leaves, but June bugs will eat on the edge of the leaves at night.

Welcome.

I don't think it's atypical for a young fig to take its time producing fruit. Sometimes they're eager to produce and others plod along.

As an owner of TBG, I wanna say that if you like Brown Turkey figs, you'll really like Texas Blue Giant. But if you're not really into BT, then keep looking for different varieties.

Now, if you hate Brown Turkey, dig the tree up. TBG is a tremendous producer of both foliage and fruit and within a year or two, you'll have more figs than you'll know what to do with.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
A new tree will often focus on growing before turning into production. Keep her watered and fertilized and let her grow ( Patience ).
For the spiders ( as long as they are not poisonous ), put on gloves ... and crush or clean them. Clean the webs too.
There are beasts called spider mites that look like spider ( close one eye if you don't agree with the two opened ) and you want to get rid of them asap.
There are lots of beasts that could do damage to the leaves, but I would blame it on slugs or caterpillars . So track them down and get rid of them.
Against slugs, they sell those pellets, just use them. This time of the year here, I have no other choice. There are some that are hedgehog friendly - I use those.
The hedgehog plays hide and seek in my garden so every now and then I water him ... along with my vegetables.
