Hello,

I found this forum today. I have been growing 4 of my figs in pots for several years and loads of fruits this year. This has given me motivation to want to grow more varieties. I have Celeste, Ischia and Black Jack. Today I bought Panache, LSU Purple and Olympian.

I hope to learn more about growing figs from everyone.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome PY, What part of Pa. are you located?

thanks everyone. I am in Pittsburgh, zone 6.

I smiled when I see some of you with your wish list. I have mine too :)  no specific cultivar, as long as they are tasty. Yesterday I spoke to someone in Florida regarding buying some fresh chestnuts and the convo digressed to figs. He said he has a fig tree but do not know what variety, but it is awfully tasty. I said I would send him some Celeste and Black jack cuttings in the fall but can send him some Ischia (no fruits yet and small, so cuttings are small too) Today i sent him 3 cuttings of it and he sent me his.

So I am keen to get the cutting going when I get them.

Welcome to the forum PY and congratulations on scoring some cuttings already

Thanks Charitup.

I know that Ischia is also known as Verte. Can someone tell me if Celese, Black Jack and LSU Purple are also known by other names. thanks.

Greetings and welcome from California, PY. How much room do you have on your property? It won't be enough.  Gary

What room Gary (hehe) I dont have any space and lack sunshine :( I grow mine in pots and move them around to catch the sun. I try to grow some other tropical, unsuccessfully I may add. Having said this I am proud to say that I have a lemon on my lemon tree. Would have more but due to abuse from inconsistent and lack of watering many of the fruits fell off :(

I have been growing my  Celeste for at least 4 yrs. Bought it as a twig and nearly killed it on several occasions. This year for the 1st time I have 40 fruits on one but the fruits are not very big. I fertilised but it does not seem to help. Seeing over 40 fruits on a 2-3ft tree has made me want to grow more figs!

Welcome to F4F PY!! =)

hello from Down Under

Welcome to the forum PY

Welcome from Southern California!

You asked about figs known by other names.  If you go to Jon's site and check varietals, he usually says other names by which a variety is known.
