new to site, could use some help

I don't know what variety of fig I have, the sprig was given to me from my dad many years ago. They are the white figs, (green when they ripen)very sweet, and usualy the size of small plums. I normally get around 80 to 100 figs a season and twice had 2 harvests in 1 year. Live in central Florida, so freeze is not a problem. I have been clipping off the shoots coming out of the ground for years, but decided not to cut them the last few years and keep it as a big bush/tree instead, so I have 1 main trunk, and 2 smaller, but great shoots. The usual growth for new, smaller trunks are about 1 to 1 1/2 feet per year. The problem was last year I trimmed back some branches and got ALOT less fruit. So I don't know if there is a right way to do it. I made the cut right after the leaves, essentialy leaving the leaves and a little stub right after them. Should I cut them in a different spot, or cut the old branches vs. the new ones or does it make a difference. There also is green fungus? growing on alot of the branches, any way to stop this growth.
Thanks for answering, and your help.

It would be very helpful if you could take some pictures and post them.

From what you've said though it sounds like your tree is slow-growing.    The "green fungus" is somewhat mysterious (again...pictures would be very helpful).  How much sun does it get?

When did you prune your tree last year (when you got less fruit)?  It is best to prune your tree when it is dormant (prior to leafing out in the spring).

thanks for reply, I will try to send pix soon.
pruning was done in jan. feb. while dormant
