I started my new airlayering fig in a new container and broke a 4 inch tip off and stuck it in the soil.
Quess what that little piece start to grow. You can start any time of the year,right? 

Most don't believe it and most do it wrong. I have better rooting from green cuttings than dormant cuttings. Start the cutting as soon as it is taken, cover quickily with humidity shield (ziplock),place in shade, forget about it, check in a few weeks ( ziplocks pass gas and not moisture).

But does it have roots?  It can push leaves with no roots..then stalls, leaves dry up and death.  Not to say you can't get green cuttings to root because of course you can.

You have "discovered" the age old way of doing it.  Before there was Perlite there was the cut and stick method, used by many for a long time, still used.

I get near 98% success rates with rockwool/root riots. So much so that, I have to use an extra bedroom for all my plants!

I knew it is not a new way, but for me it was just a surprise that it grow this late in the season.Most of my cuttings that grew in the spring time is allways succesful,but i never used green tips.

Bob , I haven't tried this method as yet , but next year I'm hoping to try air layering and also using green cuttings .

I have excellent success on green tips. I'm not sure why I keep making new plants! 2 bedrooms and 100's of plants. This hobby has gone completely outta control!

Howie, collecting and growing figs has a way of getting out of control for most of us....lol.
