newbie celeste fig problems

Hey everyone,
my name is chris I am new here, and also new to fig ownership. I recently purchased a 5 foot tall celeste fig tree and potted it, since i plan on bringing it in the garage during the winter (located in NE philadelphia ).

I have noticed lots of chomping on the leaves, so i did get some neem oil spray hoping this will help. While looking over things today i noticed some marring at the base of the trunk, at first we thought it was our landscapers being careless with a weed wacker but since there is a little sucker popping up right next to it, a weed wacker is unlikely because it probably would have taken it out.

Please see the pictures and let me know what you think. I gave it a little extra support because I am now worried about the stability of the trunk. I was think is this a squirrel? Is this the wind causing stress cracks?

Probably time to back off and let things take their natural course.

figs really like being multi-trunk, I would certainly let it go that direction if it wants to. Seems to me that many figs are naturally bush form, and keep the "tree" form only by training and maintenance
