I wonder how many times I drove past you guys on my way going shopping and doing various errands?  Throggs Neck is a few minutes away.  Check out Pelham Gardens, between Williamsbridge Road, and Eastchester Road, and beyond....loaded with fig trees!  The whole area was heavily Italian at one time.  So was "Indian Village"...Narraganset, Seminole Aves. too, near Jacobi Hospital.  The Italians are gone, the fig trees remained behind.

Maybe I will run into you doing  air-layers on some trees....

I am so lucky to have at least 4 of these amazing trees (their babies) growing here in Seattle.  If they do as well for me, I am the luckiest of all.  I found the cuttings to be very strong and all sprouted with no problems. Thanks to a very generous member from that area who sent them to me! Lucky twice.

Sometimes I have meetings in Jacobi hospital. I admire the homes, but haven't noticed the trees. Next time I have a meeting I will. The last time I was in the area, one of those homes was filled with bamboo. It reminded me of the movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. They probably had fig trees.
If I see an ambulance by the park CTFIGS, I'll jump out and say hi.

Grasa, not sure if you meant me but the cuttings I sent were of my trees not the ones in the bronx, lol... I will be sharing any cuttings I get from any unknowns, will definitely keep you and Dan on the list.

Smaritza, I haven't noticed any figs in that home, I know the one you're talking about. a lot of gardening but no fig trees, apparently  :( , tons of bamboo though.

I see a lot about air pruning, what exactly is that? How is it done? I don't think I'm there yet, but I want to be prepared just in case.

Found some fig stories in the NY Times.  Perhaps you have already seen it.  But I'd thought I'd share them anyway.

I am thinking to change my name to: All Day I Dream About Figs..

@smaritza Thanks for posting good stuff.  Anyone look at that 11,400 year old fig. Too cool!

@Anthony I would have your back but Im too far away. It would be funny though to see the owner come out the next morning to a stump, now us posting "unknown fig cuttings available"!  Probably a good thing.  We would run over there with the pickup together and do the weekend tour of fig cuttings.  HA!  I like you Anthony, youre too funny.

LOL Thanks eithieus that would be pretty funny but what the heck would we do with all of them I actually can get that many cuttings but I know I would get stuck with them all. I have permission to trim 3 15x15 ft trees all different but there's no way I would there would be probably without exaggerating 1500 plus cuttings between the 3 trees...Yikes!!!!!

Oh and Thank You Thank You I'm here all week.

I CAN NOT BELIEVE I HAVE MISSED THIS THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome Smaritza!!   This is a great group of enablers!  When I joined just over a year ago i wanted 1 fig tree in a new garden I was building, and it had to be the right one.  I did get that one and it has been a fabulous tree.  I also lost count of the cuttings I have started and realized I don't have space for all of them and am trying to turn back the clock or at least slow them down and I still have more in the fridge and I still have more coming and....................

Get the picture?

Thank you for posting those articles, they brought back fond memories growing up on LI.

Thanks for the welcome, Jo-Ann.
This is a wonderful group of enablers. In my mind, I'm sticking to my plan of about 5 trees, but I think now not so much. I am definitely the fish on a fig hook. I'm glad you liked the stories.
