Deerhunter,

Those look really nice..

Good job getting roots!  I could be wrong, but they may need a little more light...may be the angle of the pic, but are they a little leggy?  Don't mean any offense, just a suggestion - again I could totally be wrong.  :)  What varieties are they?

Nice job starting your cuttings, they look good, just keep an eye on them until they get strong

Dave

not sure if their leggy ...this is my first time   starting a fig tree from a cutting ....they are getting plenty of light though.....was told they originated from Italy around Naples but i really don't know

thanks BLB

Nice job deer hunter. All my cuttings have that same leggy look too.  Mine only get about 2 or 3 hours of sun each day through the window.  I don't have grow lights, but maybe next year.  Yours look good to me, but I'm pretty new at this too, so what do I know ??     :-)

yep thanks, Vince......my seem to drop their leaves.....i keep them by the window also...

Welcome and congratulations on getting the cuttings to root.  I think Dave's right.  Cuttings don't look like that if they have enough light.  Search on 5000K for more info.

Good job on the cuttings.

How much root mass do you have? and How old are the cuttings?
If you have a good amount of root mass and they are getting enough light they may need a little fertilizer. I use a very weak Miracle Grow mix, 1/2 teaspoon to 1 gallon water of standard MG garden fertilizer.

Water with fresh water first and then with fertilizer, but only if you have good roots. The cuttings will also grow rapidly if it is warm. I have been keeping my cuttings in a south facing window in an unheated room and they are growing slow, but healthy.

If you can get a few figs and leaves from the mother tree this year, you may be able to identify the variety.

Good Luck.

hi Pete S, i got pretty good root mass and  using a Miracle grow potting mix and added some play sand and perlite to it ....but my leaves keep dropping ...could it be that I'm giving them to much water .

thanks Bob

Too much water could be a possibility, as could too much fertilizer.
What is your light source for the cuttings? Mine are in a south facing window and get 2-4 hours direct sunlight per day, the rest of the day is indirect light.

The plant on the left was started from a cutting in the late fall, the plant on the right is from a summer cutting.
