newbie introduction

Hello everyone I have been a fan of this site for a few months. I went ahead and registered so I can learn more about figs. I will go by BrianM and look forward to meeting new friends. I have a horticulture background and just recently started exploring figs. I live in Fresno Ca.and started researching the history of figs in the valley. I became intrested in figs because almost all of the figs are getting ripped out for home development. Thanks

Welcome Brian.

Welcome to the family, Brian!

Welcome Brian!  You just might become Brian "Fig Seed" up there where they are ripping out paradise to put in a parking lot............ I can see you are doing what you can to keep those figs alive in some way.

Developers!  A part of our lives.  I used to live in Orange County California, so named because of all the Citrus groves and strawberry fields.  They are all gone now.  I fear the same thing will happen here in my new town.  Already the town is spreading in a big way towards the Dairy ranches.  To destroy our commercial citrus side of town, the growers would have to sell, and so far, they are standing ground!

HUGE houses with teenie yards.  It's the building trend.  2 high schools in one town.  AND they have widened a road that connects us to other towns, and I can already see the gleam in the eyes of developers.

Aside from that, you will find so much wonderful information in this forum and you will meet a lot of new friends.

Suzi

welcome to the forum.

Welcome Brian!

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to plant enough figs to keep the numbers up despite the developers  :)

Hello Brian.
It's sad to watch mature trees being ripped off their land and destroyed.
This could be a chance for you to bring some home to your backyard and start your own orchard of this exotic fruit. Find out the varieties they are destroying and get either young trees with roots  or get cuttings from them before they get destroyed. We can all guide you into propagating or replanting them ;)
I hope you have plenty of space in your backyard...

Welcome!
