Newly purchased fig leaves turned yellow?

Hi,

I just bought this fig tree less than a month ago. It was very healthy when I first bought it. I haven't up-pot yet, just water once every few days.

I just noticed a few leaves had turned yellow over the past weekend. Where I live, it hasn't been particularly hot, so I am wondering why the leaves turned yellow?

Appreciate you help!

I would check the roots first (Is it root bound?). It may be a water related issue (too much or too little, is it sitting in water?). After that I would question the plant food (How and what are you feeding?). Last is it getting enough sun?

There are always too many variables, that's without even questioning the type of potting mix, its possible that it may be a mix of several different things, so try to answer and eliminate one at a time.

yep.. I would say root bound or too much water.  Does the pot feel heavy with water?  I would go ahead and up pot it with a fast draining mix and loosen a bit around the original root ball without disturbing the roots too much.

That's normal and not really a bad thing. The tree is stressed. Usually when I get a tree from the mail or from a local nursery, I set it in the shade for about a week, then I repot the tree.

My Jurupa got stressed a few months a go from a lack water on a 90 degree day. The leaves curled, yellowed and fell off. After a few days of shade and water, new leaves emerged and now is doing fine.

for now, i would do what dennis said. keep it in the shade. don't water unless the soil is light and almost dried. if it's not very hot where you are, every few day might be too much water depends on how much water your soil mix will hold.

Thanks for all the responses! Really appreciate them.

I can see a bit of roots circling around the pot. It's not too bad and I was planning to up-pot later in the Fall around Oct/Nov. Since it's almost Aug now, I don't want to disturb the plant too much until it goes dormant.

I'll try to limit the water I give. It's such a nice tree -- growing vigorously when I bought it, so I'm a bit surprised to see the leaves turning yellow.
