Funny!

Last summer we had an insane cardinal that spent all day attacking his reflection in the car's side mirror.

He is gone now. 

Probably part of natural selection, as spending all your time attacking yourself in the mirror is not a good survival strategy.

Years ago when working at a zoo, one of the peacocks attacked its reflection in the shiny paint of a new, black Porsche--leaping up to use his spurs and claws all along one side and covering it with scratches and dents. The owner, a staff member, was not a happy camper.

Hi Ken.  Yet another reason I am happy to be driving an old but realiable 98 Honda Civic.

It comes pre-scratched and dented so I have no fear of peacock attacks.

We picked the first main-crop figs last night.  The Celeste beat the Georgia White Hybrid this year, but only by a few days.

John--good to hear from you. My car has that same patina, so I, too, have nothing to fear from peacocks or any other birds--unless I park under a tree.

I just love woodpeckers. There has been a Piliated woodpecker around here lately and he can make a real racket!

I wonder how the bird actually got a hold on the mirror. My grandma has a suet feeder that the local woodpecker was trying to visit but he could not hold on properly because woodpeckers use their tails to stabilize themselves on the tree and she had a cheap box feeder. Newer feeders feature tail props to help them do their thing. So I guess the woodpecker would have to go at it from the top because they can not balance otherwise.
