Nice bonsai on eBay

Saw this on eBay. I think it looks quite nice, like it needs constant attention, but very nice.

OBSERVATIONS:  Check out this signature Mr. Ishii of Southern California Mission Fig just bursting into leaf.  Purchased at the Shohin Bonsai Conference six years ago, it is really turning out to be quite a show stopper. Preferring clip and grow training, a lot of work went into creating the good movement and angles in this typically straight growing species.  I added a pic of my next styling moves for the new owner that include the carving of shari (dead wood on the tree) which I planned for this summer. An unusal oak looking leaf reduces well and is easy to style. Best of all it produces edible fruit, and I was lucky enough to get one on mine last year until some creature enjoyed it for a snack!  I also had great success back East growing this species indoors on a bright window in winter. Of course, as with all my customers, I am delighted to quickly answer any questions and pass on tips, advice, and experiences I have had with the species.  FREE PRIORITY U.S. SHIPPING IMMEDIATELY!

Fig tree roots grow very quickly, You  will need to repot and root prune every year. As well as be consistent with pinching and pruning throughout the season otherwise it would grow out of proportion very quickly. I grow bonsai and attempted to train figs as a bonsai but didn't give it the needed time and attention.

Way more attention than I could give as well, I think it really is exceptional. I would like to grow one just like it someday, only 5 ft. tall in a 30 gallon container :)

It boggles the mind!  Block-out the pot with one hand and just look at the tree.  That tree looks like it could  be growing in any garden, full-size.  Even the leaves have reduced, somewhat.

I have some in-ground fig trees that busted out of their original tub and rooted into the garden soil.  I recently dug them up to separate them into three individual  trees, which 5 years ago, were just rooted twigs.  Two of these became single-stem standards, but one grew all twisted, contorted, and has a nice fat trunk and would make a respectable "bonsai" after some radical pruning, and correct branch training.

Ummmm.....a new project is about to be born.  Now I'm on a quest for other photos of  fig-bonsai.  The leaves might be a problem?  Too large.  I wonder if they will reduce with bonsai training?

Thanks for the photo.

Frank

The leaves will reduce appreciably but not quite to scale. It would be like maples or hornbeams that have a "show" season and are challenging potted plants the rest of the year. Ditto on Bass' root pruning comment.
