NJ = New Jersey Hardy?

I had a bonus cutting and if I read the writing correctly it said LN, but if you invert the letters it could possibly be NJ. I haven't seen anything for a LN fig. Unfortunately I am not 100 percent certain who included the cutting. If anyone has information and/or pictures it would be greatly appreciated.

Could the 'LN' really be 'CH'?  Chicago Hardy?

NJ what?!?

How about also looking at it sideways? (just kidding)
Pity, you do not know exactly where it came from ...
Hopefully somebody may come with some LN explanation, ( LemoN  - is one from me ?).
Try looking into your recent purchase/trade/email/etc., records and ask the donor for more info.

It could have come from a MD doctor - most of us cannot read what (scribbling) is on the prescription means.

If all fails; I suggest to tag it as 'Unknown' (squared).

The leaves don't look like Chicago Hardy. It's got only three leaves and they look sort of like Raspberry Latte. I'm killing time right now. I will probably have to do what you suggest and look at my cutting orders when I'm home.

Here's a picture of the plant.

(Checking out Post Image. More time to kill)

If no response from your source. Just a suggestion Long Neck?

I would guess large negronne (LN). That is how I label it, and I think Kerry ( drivewayfarmer) labels his-that's where I got the idea. Maybe a possibility?

(a few more minutes of down time) large negronne would be really nice

Just by looking at the leaves, I would be surprised if this one is not a dark fig.

It's very difficult to tell on a young fig. They can have all sorts of leaf shapes. Like gorgi said, you could try looking into your recent purchases to figure it out.

How could a fig cutting be mislabeled? :) Or undetermined?

I have bags of cuttings with "?" on them. From my own collection.

I have potted figs for which I'm convinced my kids removed the labels and did who knows what with them.

The LN may in fact be UN (unknown).

If all fails, maybe tag it something like as (unkown) "LN?"; for now.

Kind of a 'narrower' unkown id. I am sure that the true name will surface in the future.

I just took the time to go through my notes.  I did get cuttings from you, BigBadBill, back in November.  Now I feel confident that the proper name is Large Negronne.  Thanks again, but the way, for making that offer.  You really helped me add to my "collection."

I just saw that Negronne is a/k/a Violette De Bordeaux.  I've got three from cuttings last year, and I don't remember any of them having the leaf shape of this plant.  These plants are totally fascinating to me.

Great! I hope it does well for you! It's tough to say if they are the same. I grow Malone, VdB, large negronne, petite negri, and petite aubique. While similar, they all seem to have a few differences- hardiness, production, and ripening time. My source for LN was Kerry.
